Project “Repentance” of the organizing committee of the “Belarusian Christian Democracy”
Objective:
For Belarusian people to attain repentance in their silent, indifferent or oftentimes fear-induced tolerance, endorsement and participation in annihilation of the better half of self, nation’s intelligentsia, culture, creative heritage, torture and murder of tens and hundreds of thousands or even millions of innocent victims during Stalin’s regime and throughout the whole Soviet rule. Repentanc is also required in the sin of forgetfulness that can lead to the history repeating the tragedy of the 20th century.
Goals:
1) To gather information about soviet time repressions, such as victims’ names, places of utions and notorious tormenters who still have streets named after them, and disperse this information to the Belarusian people.
2) Erection of memorials in the places of utions, paying tribute to the memory of the repression victims, renaming of streets bearing the names of the slaughterers.
3) Furtherance of the intergenerational continuity of the former and current repression victims. Bring to knowledge of the young activists the fact that they are able to exist and fight they owe to the former generations who at the expense of their lives preserved human dignity, Belarusian national language and culture, liberty and country’s independence for the posterity.
Existing and projected activities:
1) Excursions to Kurapaty and other places of utions in Minsk (and in prospect - in other cities and towns of Belarus).
2) Presentations on victims and utors of the soviet times repressions, demonstrations of the relevant documentaries followed by discussions.
3) Home visitings and public meetings with the former victims of the soviet repressions by young BCD and other initiatives’ activists; fund raising to cover the needs of the elderly former GULAG prisoners.
4) Gathering and dissemination of the information on repressions on disks, leaflets, dedicated web-page http://represii-by.info.
5) Paying tribute to the memory and distribution of information on the annual International Remembrance Day of victims of political repressions on October 30th, as well as October 29th, 1937 – the black day of the Belarusian culture, when 22 Belarusian writers together with other representatives of the Belarusian intelligentsia were uted (about 160 people total).
6) Establishing contact and mutual support to those people and initiatives who are also involved in paying tribute to the memory of the victims of soviet time repressions.
